The excitement was in the air and this began with Andy’s promo mix on 5fm which resonated around South Africa so much so that Andy trended as the most popular trend in South Africa during his mix. The excitement carried over a week and was evident at both event’s in Durban and Johannesburg with queue’s stretching out of view to get into the events!

10:15pm and Estiva arrives at Origin Nightclub in Durban and the 50th celebrations were officially about to kick off! And kick off in dramatic fashion. Estiva opened #ADS50 and set the tone for the rest of the evening, pure chaotic euphoria. Taking over from Estiva was the man himself, Andy Duguid. Staying true to his DJ form and opened a very tech / trance set with Miracle Moments and the euphoria from Estiva’s set carries over. The floor was full so much so that fans had to stand on the speakers either side of the dance floor to get a view of Andy working the crowd up into a frenzy.

Andy closes his set and this marks the arrival of Shane 54 who instantly connects with the audience and drops a set which continues the euphoria. Shane54 closes at 4.15am and the floor is still at capacity paving the way for Rafael Frost to end the Durban show. Rafael plays till the end and the fans are still clambering over the DJ booth to try and shake his hand.

After Dark Sessions 50 in Durban was in a word “Epic”. The audience played a big role in the evening and the DJ’s carried them the rest of the way. Catching up with Andy on leaving the club he had this to say “When planning ADS50 the first thing was to find a host country. South Africa was my first choice and it came off so I was really excited. And tonights show proves that I was right to come here. I just had a chat to all the DJ’s and they are all buzzing about the show. The crowd tonight created an energy so powerful that ADS50 will resonate throughout the globe.”

So with #ADS50 durban been and gone the DJ’s head back to the hotel for a couple hours sleep before flying out to Johannesburg for the live show at Truth nightclub…… maybe! News alerts warn of the worst cyclone since 1984 is brewing off the coast of Durban so the promoters have cars in place in case they need to make the journey by road.

A new morning and we have been lucky, The cyclone has decided to be lazy and wait a few hours before battering us here in Durban so the guys fly off safely and arrive in Johannesburg at 3pm. Arriving at the hotel they all get a few hours much needed rest as tonight they do it all over again but this time live on TV!

We arrived early at Truth Nightclub at around 9pm and it was evident from then on that tonights show was going to be BIG! I saw fans holding posters of the DJ’s, wearing ADS50 T-Shirts and singing there songs while joining the ever growing queue.

At 10:30 Estiva, Andy and Shane54 arrive at the venue and are ushered back stage. Estiva’s set time has been put back by 30 mins while the technicians work out problems with the TV link (remember the cyclone?). The time has come, The visual countdown begins and Estiva arrives on stage with the crowd chanting his name. He drop’s bomb after bomb after bomb and builds the set for Andy to arrive on stage. The crowd are chanting and screaming his name, something that does not happen often in South Africa. We had thrown our reserved nature out the window for #ADS50 and just went for it full throttle. Again, Andy drops a tech influenced set which the crowd are loving. Andy has such a unique production and his sets are just as unique. Unique in an amazing way!

Andy closes and out pops Shane54 who opens with what can be described as a “Mouth Bongo” party trick noise! This instantly connects with the audience and shows he wants to have fun! Again, he smashes out tune after tune as Andy described on twitter as “Tearing the dance floor a new ass hole”.

We had heard rumours that Rafael Frost might not be making the show as he has taken ill! Nobody knew if he would make it until Andy comes on the mic after Shane54′s set and announces he has arrived and will be playing! Andy took this moment to thank everyone for coming out and goes on to say how much he loves our country and he was proud to be able to perform once again here. This was a true goose bump moment with some of the crowd shedding a proud tear or two.

He closes his speech and the countdown appears once again to mark the appearance of Rafael Frost to close the show. And what a set he drops once again! Again we can only sum up #ADS50 in Johannesburg as “Epic”.

To summarise, Where ever #ADS100 will be taking place, I will be there!
